NEW DELHI: The powerful ICC Board will talk about the losses incurred when it convenes on July 19 during the world governing body’s annual conference in Colombo. It is suspected that the United States’ portion of the T20 World Cup went over budget.

It’s challenging to estimate losses because the amount obtained through gate receipts (ticketing) hasn’t been fully estimated because the auditing isn’t finished.

Prominent board members, however, believe that losses for the US leg of the competition could total millions of dollars.

Although it has come to light that Chris Tetley, the Tournament Director, has resigned, people with knowledge of the events claim that the 49-year-old Englishman made the decision to submit his resignation letter well before the competition, according to PTI.

“Many members aren’t happy with Tetley’s performance. He had tendered his resignation but it can’t be said that USA leg of the T20 World Cup has got anything to do with it,” an ICC board source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

“With at least three ICC global tournament and all associate nation getting T20I status, management work is relentless. Tetley, it is believed had decided to quit some time back.”

People who have been intimately involved in organizing the event think that ICC will really make a good living from ticket sales.

But the selection of New York City as one of the main event locations has displeased the powerful ICC members.

The Nassau County Cricket Stadium’s outfield and pitch have taken a lot of flak, which was preventable.

“The event was supposed to be held in the USA and there were other cities apart from New York where matches could have been organised. Why wasn’t it considered?

“No practice matches were played to test the strip, which was certainly unsuitable for top flight cricket,” the source said.
