In an interview with NUFCTV, new sporting director Paul Mitchell has explained why he thinks this club is the ‘perfect fit’ for him, discussed his role and how his relationship with Eddie Howe was one of his motivating factors for joining.

Mitchell joined earlier this month replacing Dan Ashworth who had been on gardening leave since September, meaning the club hadn’t really been able to prepare for the short and long-term future for a while now.

However, the 42-year-old brings a wealth of experience having worked at Southampton, Tottenham, Monaco and RB Leipzig and believes that Newcastle is the perfect club for him with the direction we are heading in.

His relationship with Eddie Howe was also an important factor in bringing him to St James’ Park as the two both worked down on the south coast for a period of time where their paths will have certainly crossed and Mitchell claimed he has a lot of respect for the head coach.

Mitchell will be working throughout all areas of the club as he hopes to develop everything from the recruitment team to the women’s side to the medical department, and of course there will be a huge emphasis on finding and developing young talent.

It is a very exciting appointment for Newcastle and our new director speaks very well about what it is he is setting out to do in what will hopefully be a very long and successful career in the North East.
