Speaking at his pre-match press conference today, Crystal Palace manager, Oliver Glasner, provided an update on Marc Guehi.
The Austrian gave a short and to the point soundbite, telling journalists:
“Marc will lead the team as captain tomorrow. I expect everyone being a Crystal Palace player until nobody tells me something different. Especially that player. Because at the end of the day it is always their decision.”
It comes as no major surprise that Marc Guehi will start, and captain, Palace in their game against West Ham United on Saturday, according to Glasner. Football managers will always want to play their best team available. And the Eagles continue to send out a bullish message through the media that they won’t sell easily.
Despite noises from various sources all week that a deal is edging closer and will soon be sorted, it is clearly not imminent as Palace would certainly withdraw him from the squad to protect the substantial transfer fee.
Palace also need to bounce back from an opening day defeat against Brentford.
