Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers will be joined by a fellow U.S. men’s national team teammate this season.
Auston Trusty has joined the reigning Scottish Premiership champions in a permanent deal from Sheffield United, both clubs announced. The Blades will reportedly receive a $7.8 million fee for Trusty, who signed a five-year deal with Celtic.
“We are so pleased to sign Auston and he is a really welcome addition to our squad,” Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said. “He is a quick, strong, athletic defender with great ability and good experience and a player who has done really well to make his way to the USA national squad.
“We are really looking forward to working with Auston,” he added. “I know he is really excited to be joining Celtic and looking forward to facing the challenges ahead and playing his part as we strive to bring our fans success once again.”
Trusty, 26, made the move to Bramall Lane last summer from Arsenal and proceeded to make 34 combined appearances for the Blades. However, Chris Wilder’s men suffered relegation from the English Premier League, dropping back into the Championship.
The former MLS homegrown defender only featured in a pair of EFL Cup matches this season, being an unused substitute in all three of Sheffield United’s league matches. Trusty also made 48 appearances for then-EFL Championship side Birmingham City in a loan spell during the 2022-23 season.
Celtic hosts Rangers on Sunday in the first Glasgow Derby of the SPFL season.
