The dust has settled following Sunday’s 2-1 win over Spurs and I thought to share some moments from the match that you might just have missed.
Joelinton and Pope’s tactical move?
The first comes via Joelinton and his ‘secret’ exchange with Nick Pope that I spotted from my seat in the Gallowgate End, where the Brazilian gestured for our goalkeeper to go down and receive treatment.
This came midway through a tough second half when we were struggling to cope with Spurs’ half-time change and hanging on at 1-1. Immediately after Pope went down, the players went over to Eddie Howe to reset and receive some instructions and exactly the same thing happened with Pope as we were pushing to hold on against Southampton on the opening day.
A coincidence? Considering Pope got up and was perfectly fine on both occasions, I think not! I’d say it’s a return of Howe’s ‘win at all costs’ Mags and a sign we’re being smarter in games; to help ourselves and disrupt the opposition.
Kieran Trippier’s moment of class
A brilliant clip emerged on social media on Sunday, showing unused substitute Kieran Trippier doing anything but sulk from the sidelines, as a fan filmed him communicating with the players to help us cope with Tottenham’s onslaught of attacks.
He didn’t play and he’s been linked with a move once again this week, but this shows how much his experience and knowledge of the game can help our lads. He’s a top pro and such a great leader who can still offer us so much.
Another song for Sandro!
We saw Wor Flags’ brilliant display and a big cheer when Sandro Tonali came onto the pitch, but the support continued from Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton after the game.
As the players entered the dressing room following the 2-1 win, Bruno and big Joe were seen singing the “Sandro ole, ole, ole” chant (watch below) as the Italian followed them into the dressing room!
