Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou said he “always” wins trophies in his second year in charge of clubs after Spurs suffered a second defeat of the season by losing the north London derby.
Arsenal defender Gabriel nodded in Bukayo Saka’s corner in the 64th minute, settling a contest that had matched the record for the most yellow cards during the first half of a top-flight game, with Spurs accruing five of those bookings.
“I don’t usually win things – I always win things in my second year,” Postecoglou told Sky Sports. “Nothing has changed.”

Postecoglou trophies
Postecoglou first won a trophy in his second season as a manager when he led South Melbourne to glory in the National Soccer League Premiership in 1997-98.
The Australian repeated the trick with honours including the A-League Premiership for Brisbane Roar in 2010-11, the Japanese title with Yokohama F Marinos in 2019 and the Scottish treble with Celtic in 2022-23.
Now 59, he also won confederational youth titles during his spells in charge of Australia’s Under-17 and Under-2o teams.
Tottenham trophies
Tottenham’s only major trophy of the 21st century is the 2007-08 Carabao Cup, beating Chelsea in the final under Juande Ramos.
In their first season under Postecoglou, Spurs led the Premier League for three matchdays as part of a 10-game unbeaten start before finishing fifth.

Their first game in the Carabao Cup ended in a defeat on penalties to Fulham and their second match in the FA Cup resulted in a loss to Manchester City, who finished 25 points above them as Premier League…
