Could this year’s Fiddles, Vittles and Vino in Colorado Springs be the last one? | Table Talk | Dining, Drinks, Reviews

James Africano, owner of The Warehouse, Brent Beavers, owner of Immerse Cuisine, and Eric Viedt, partner and executive chef at The Margarita at Pine Creek, are the masterminds behind the hugely popular Fiddles, Vittles and Vino event.

The three chefs are members of Club Nine, a nonprofit that includes other local civic-minded chefs. Africano, Beavers and Viedt came up with the idea of having a food, wine and music event that Club Nine members could stage and donate proceeds from to further agricultural programs at the Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site at Garden of the Gods. These projects both beautify the ranch and restore its original purpose.

“It was about 24 years ago that Brent and I got the idea,” said Africano. “We were having drinks on the patio at Sencha and started talking about having a collaborative dinner. We got Eric interested and, once we got started planning, it took us about four years to launch the event.”

When they held the first Fiddles, Vittles and Vino gathering, it was such a success that they continued having the party annually — at least, until the pandemic shut down public gatherings.

Sept. 8 marked the 17th Fiddles, Vittles and Vino event, which has always been held at Rock Ledge Ranch.

At the lawn party, the who’s who of the Springs culinary, musical and beverage communities were dishing up food samples, pouring drinks and filling the air with toe-tapping tunes. It was appreciated by all; however, the event takes a lot of organizing and time to orchestrate. And its founding fathers are growing weary.

“This is our first year since the pandemic,” Beavers said at the event. “It’s a huge undertaking and we were thinking this would be our last year, but we’ll see.”

Africano added, “We love it after it all comes together and figured this would be the last time,” he said, as he looked around the fun-loving crowd. “But everyone is having such a good time, we may change our minds.”
