Jeff Lynne’s ELO to Celebrate Their Grand Finale at Hyde Park
Renowned rock band, Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), has unveiled plans for their last-ever concert, scheduled for the summer of 2025 at London’s iconic Hyde Park. This historic venue holds sentimental value for the group, as it marked their return to the stage in 2014.
A Memorable Farewell Performance
The band is currently touring North America on a comprehensive 31-show journey aptly named ‘Over and Out’. At 76 years old, Jeff Lynne feels it’s time to close this chapter after an illustrious career. The final performance is slated for July 13th, 2025, with an announcement of special guest performers coming soon.
A Return After Five Years
This tour represents ELO’s first tour in five years; a significant hiatus largely due to pandemic-induced shutdowns impacting live music events across the globe. Their last UK concert occurred in 2019 when they held an arena tour that included multiple performances at London’s The O2 Arena and three shows in Birmingham—Lynne’s place of origin.
Lynne Reflects on His Journey
In his own words about this momentous occasion, Lynne expressed: “My journey back into touring began at Hyde Park. It feels perfectly fitting to conclude our story here. We cannot wait to celebrate this special night with our loyal fans in the UK.” He channeled excitement reminiscent of ELO’s famous track: “As we sing along to one beloved song: ‘We’re gonna do it one more time!’”
An Exciting Part of BST Hyde Park Series
This spectacular event is part of the annual BST (British Summer Time) concert series which showcases several leading musical acts each summer in London. Notable performers from recent years include Kylie Minogue and Stevie Nicks among others.
Currently, Jeff Lynne stands as the sole headliner announced for BST Hyde Park next year. Jim King, CEO of European festivals at AEG Presents that organizes this event remarked: “Jeff Lynne’s ELO enjoys immense popularity worldwide. Their concerts are nothing short of extraordinary testaments showcasing over half a century filled with iconic hits.” He added his enthusiasm stating hosting such a historic finale is an ‘immense privilege.’”
The Legacy Continues with Change
Lynne remains the only active member from the original lineup while keyboardist Richard Tandy was part of their reunion until he stepped away from touring duties in 2017 and sadly passed away earlier this year.
Sparking emotion on losing his dear friend and collaborator Richard Tandy on May 1st through social media channels Lynn stated: “I’m profoundly saddened by my long-time companion Richard Tandy’s passing; he was both remarkable musician & wonderful friend who has left behind countless cherished memories.”
The ‘Over and Out’ Tour Highlights, Reviews Shine Brightly!
Critically acclaimed reviews continue rolling in regarding their ongoing tour! Recently receiving four-and-a-half stars from Far Out Magazine following a show held at Capitol One Arena spanning Washington D.C., saying:
‘Even if Lynnes visible role felt slightly toned down than ususal, the brilliance still radiated throughout.’ “The review described how he transcended traditional songwriting during those decades past—not merely aiming for catchy melodies but tapping into heartfelt emotions resonating strongly among fans.” Upon concluding with “Mr Blue Sky,” thunderous applause reaffirmed just how indelible moments like these remain forever ingrained within audiences’ hearts.
The North American segment wraps up shortly where they’ll perform four end shows starting October 21st—the concluding nights take place down southern California territory during two stunning evenings presented right within Kia Forum based out Inglewood.”
