In a recent announcement, Foxconn disclosed its collaboration with Porotech, a firm specializing in the AR sector with expertise in display solutions. This partnership aims to develop AR eyewear while focusing on processing microLED wafers and packaging optical modules.
As part of this initiative, Foxconn plans to set up a dedicated production line for microLED wafer processing located in Taichung, Taiwan. Production is expected to commence by the fourth quarter of 2025.
Targeting the burgeoning AR sector as an “exciting growth area,” Foxconn envisions this facility will support “the demands of future leading global customers.” Among these clients is likely to be Apple itself as they expand their use of microLED technology.
