The New York Yankees had a rough couple of months to end 2024 as they lost the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers, then lost superstar outfielder to the New York Mets.

Soto signed a contract with the Mets for 15 years worth $765 million, even after the Yankees offered him a similar deal to stay with the team.

Although the Yankees later made some key acquisitions this offseason, there is likely a sour taste in their mouths with Soto joining the rival New York team.

Former Yankees and Mets pitcher Dellin Betances recently revealed his thoughts on the Soto situation and which team owns New York.

“It’s always gonna be a Yankees town,” Betances said, via Foul Territory.

Betances is referring to the comments by Soto that New York is now a Mets town.

While Betances stated that New York will always be a Yankees town, he is one of the few players who has played for both the Mets and the Yankees.

Betances debuted in 2011 with the Yankees and played eight seasons before going to the Mets in 2020 for the final two seasons of his career.

One of the reasons Betances believes Soto went to the Mets is because there, Soto is “the guy,” and on the Yankees, Aaron Judge is “the guy.”

While the Yankees own the World Series competition between these two teams, the Mets could make a run at the title in 2025.

The Subway Series will be even more interesting than usual as Soto will face his former team with some likely sour feelings on the other side.
