Train passengers traveling between Bristol and South Wales are expected to experience “considerable” disruptions over the next two Sundays, which includes the busy Mother’s Day.
Network Rail is conducting scheduled engineering improvements along the mainline connecting Didcot and Swindon.
As a result, travelers on Great Western Railway (GWR) will need to seek alternative routes or deal with overcrowded services.
GWR has expressed regret for the inconvenience and suggested that passengers consider rescheduling their trips to different days other than the two Sundays in question.
Richard Rowland, the operations director at GWR, stated: “We apologize for the disruption this will cause for journeys between London, Bristol, and South Wales.
“We recommend that passengers alter their travel plans if they can and only make their journey on Sunday if it’s absolutely necessary.
“Due to this work, we will only be able to operate a limited number of trains on this route, and the services that do run will be highly congested.”
In addition to the crowded trains, travel times are expected to be significantly longer. GWR has warned that some services may face cancellations or delays with little notice.
Furthermore, the M4 highway between Bristol and Bath will be shut down until 06:00 on Monday as the A432 Badminton Bridge is being demolished.
GWR noted that this situation is limiting their capacity to offer replacement bus services, meaning there will be no bus operations between Swindon and Bristol Parkway.
Passengers who have purchased tickets for Sunday, March 23, can use them on either March 22 or March 24, or they can request a full refund through the GWR website.
