The mayor has announced the schools in London that will benefit from his £2.9 million Greener Schools initiative, designed to implement solar panels, heat pumps, and various technologies throughout the city.

A total of 38 schools across 16 boroughs will receive funding from this pilot program, with local councils contributing an additional £9.6 million to the effort, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

According to City Hall, the initiative is expected to help schools save nearly £15,000 per year on their energy expenses, thanks to enhancements like insulation and LED lighting.

The financial support will also facilitate sustainability efforts, including water conservation initiatives, as stated by Sir Sadiq Khan’s team.

The chosen schools span Barking and Dagenham, Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington, Kensington & Chelsea, Lambeth, Lewisham, Newham, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, Wandsworth, and Westminster.

Sir Sadiq expressed his aspiration for the project to be taken up by the government as part of a larger national program.

He posited that if all schools in London adopted similar energy-efficient measures, it could lead to annual savings exceeding £50 million from the education budget.
