According to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), ten officers from the Metropolitan Police stationed at Charing Cross are undergoing expedited misconduct hearings.
The inquiry into their behavior was initiated following a BBC report highlighting their misconduct, which included making statements about wanting immigrants shot, expressing enthusiasm for excessive use of force, and being dismissive regarding allegations of rape.
Investigators have gathered enough evidence to support claims that these officers violated the standards of professional conduct expected of the police force.
The director general of the IOPC expressed her shock at the behaviors outlined in the report and emphasized that “swift action” would be taken to facilitate the dismissal of the officers at the “earliest opportunity.”
The ten officers undergoing disciplinary action consist of eight active members of the Metropolitan Police, a former officer, and a constable who previously served in London before transferring to Gloucestershire Police, according to the IOPC.
Furthermore, one constable from this group is currently under criminal investigation for potentially obstructing justice, the IOPC noted.
An ongoing investigation is also in progress concerning the conduct of an 11th individual, identified as a designated detention officer, the IOPC reported.
