LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Lincoln County man is warning others within the area about avian flu after apparently dropping his yard flock due to contact with wild birds.
Panaca resident Kyle Hubbard suggested others with livestock birds after dropping 15 chickens, three geese and a turkey — all inside every week. Panaca is about 165 miles from Las Vegas, and a brief distance from the Utah border.
On Oct. 7, a attainable outbreak of Extremely Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) was recognized at two wildlife habitats in Lincoln County — Key Pittman Wildlife Administration Space and Pahranagat Nationwide Wildlife Refuge. That report introduced cautions for hunters, urging them to observe precautions to keep away from publicity and defend their searching canines.
“We often have wild ducks and geese flying over and landing near our property, and that’s most likely how it spread. I have two birds stored in sealed freezer bags for testing, but the reporting hotline (1-800 number) is currently down,” Hubbard posted on Oct. 22 in a non-public Fb group.
State agriculture officers had not obtained his report but early this week, and so they mentioned they don’t seem to be conscious of any avian flu affecting yard flocks in both Lincoln or Clark counties.
Individuals who maintain chickens and different birds in yard flocks are reminded to report suspected instances to their vet. Optimistic detections have to be reported to the Nevada Division of Agriculture State Veterinarian…
