India has launched a professional women’s cricket league that’s been hailed as a “game-changer” and a full revolution for both women and cricket. The league is shaping up to be the one of most lucrative leagues in all of women’s sport and is inspiring young fans to dream big.
Growing up in India, cricket is more than a sport. It’s a religion.
Whether you are 2 or 95 years old, billions are glued to their screens, hearts beating together as they support Team India.
After school, we would rush out to play cricket with friends, shouting, laughing, and dreaming of becoming cricket stars. This team-building sport brought everyone together, whether it was jumping walls for lost balls or hitting big shots.
Cricket, a bat-and-ball game, is played between two teams of eleven players on a field with a 22-yard pitch at its center and wickets at each end. The batting team aims to score runs by hitting the ball and running between the wickets, while the fielding team tries to dismiss the batsmen. Runs can also be scored by hitting the ball to the boundary.
Despite the passion for cricket, fierce competition and limited opportunities mean that many who loved the game couldn’t pursue it professionally. They often focused on stable careers, moving to the USA for better prospects. However, they still encourage their children to embrace cricket, maintaining a connection to the sport they love.

In the United States, a country traditionally dominated by baseball and football, interest in cricket is on the rise. The recent hosting of the Cricket World Cup and Team USA’s victory over Pakistan have stirred curiosity and increased participation among Americans and immigrant communities alike.
Immigrants bring their love for cricket to their new homes, forming local leagues and passing down the sport to their children. This cultural exchange enriches American society and keeps the passion for cricket alive across generations, offering excitement and camaraderie.
