The Tale of the 2002 Fort Worth Little League Baseball Team in “You Gotta Believe”
A new film, “You Gotta Believe,” is a cinematic retelling of the 2002 Little League World Series in Fort Worth, Texas. Luke Wilson and Greg Kinnear star in this inspiring story about two coaches, Bobby Ratlliff and Jon Kelly, leading their team to the annual tournament in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
In the movie, when Bobby falls ill, his son and teammates rally around him, propelling the team to compete against the best in the country. Patrick Renna, known for his role in “The Sandlot,” plays a manager who entrusts Jon and Bobby with guiding the team on their journey.
The film captures the team’s dedication to a teammate’s father and their unexpected Cinderella run to the 2002 Little League World Series. The intense 11-inning game they played in the tournament remains one of the longest in its history, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The real-life inspiration for the movie, Bobby Ratliff, sadly passed away from cancer in 2003.
Joining Wilson and Kinnear in the film are Etienne Kellici, Molly Parker, Michael Cash, Sarah Gadon, and Lew Temple, under the direction of Ty Roberts. Notably, Wilson and young actor Kellici will also appear in Kevin Costner’s upcoming project, “Horizon: An American Saga.”
“You Gotta Believe” hits theaters on August 30th, offering audiences a compelling and heartwarming tale of determination and teamwork. Don’t miss out on the latest People news by signing up for their newsletter.
