The Cowboys Welcome Patrick Suemnick: A Transfer Portal Addition
Former West Virginia forward, Patrick Suemnick, has announced his commitment to Oklahoma State, marking another significant addition to the team. Suemnick, who spent the last two seasons at West Virginia, had initially committed to DePaul before deciding to join the Cowboys.
Suemnick had a standout season with the Mountaineers last year, showcasing his talent as a 6-foot-8 forward. He appeared in every game, starting six, and averaged 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in 14 minutes per game during the 2023-24 season. His performance in the six games he started in the Big 12 conference was particularly impressive, with averages of 8.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and one steal in 26 minutes per game. Notable highlights from this stretch include a 16-point game against Texas and a career-high 20 points in a victory over Kansas.
However, Suemnick faced challenges during his first year with the Mountaineers in 2022-23, struggling for playing time and averaging only 5.4 minutes per game. Despite this, he managed to contribute 1.4 points and 1.3 rebounds in 21 games throughout the season.
Prior to his time at West Virginia, Suemnick excelled at Triton College, where he played a pivotal role in guiding his team to the NJCAA Final Four. He was recognized as a NJCAA First Team All-American after averaging an impressive 21.3 points. Suemnick kickstarted his collegiate career at Robert Morris in the 2020-21 season, where he played in 16 games, averaging 2.4 points in 8.4 minutes per game.
Steve Lutz, the head coach of the Cowboys, has been actively recruiting players from the transfer portal this offseason. Suemnick joins a talented group of transfer additions that includes Robert Jennings and Abou Ousmane, who will form a formidable frontcourt alongside Suemnick. The addition of Suemnick brings versatility and experience to the team, bolstering their prospects for the upcoming season.
