There was success for Laois at the WorldSkills Ireland 2024 competition at the RDS this week with Ruán Murgatroyd winning the Cloud Computing category.
The event, dedicated to promoting skills, apprenticeship careers, and workplace opportunities, took place from September 25 to 27.
Over 170 finalists wient head-to-head in a range of skills-based trades including automation, construction skills, ICT and culinary arts.
Ruán Murgatroyd came out on top in the Cloud Computing category which means he will now represent Ireland in EuroSkills 2025 in Herning, Denmark.
He will also have the chance to represent Ireland at the international WorldSkills in 2026 in Shanghai.
In total four young people from Laois competed in the competition in the RDS this week. Along with Ruán , Colin Rowan competed in the Automobile Technology competition, Warren Walsh competed in Electrical Installations and Luke Ryan put his skills to the test in the Welding category.
