Peter King Embraces New Role in Sports Education
Renowned sports journalist Peter King is embarking on a fresh chapter. However, this does not involve writing his iconic weekly NFL columns anymore. With the conclusion of one of the most illustrious careers in sports journalism, we‍ bid farewell to his insightful pieces, which included the famous “Monday Morning Quarterback” at Sports Illustrated and “Football Morning in America” for NBC Sports (previously known as Pro Football Talk).
King made it official and announced his retirement from active journalism at the end of February this year. Although he harbors concerns about the trajectory of sports media, he still intends to play a role in its evolution.
A New Teaching Endeavor
This week, Seton Hall University’s Center for Sports Media revealed that Peter King is set to join its faculty as a Professional-in-Residence. He will lead three master classes and take part in events throughout the semester. The inaugural master class titled “Building Relationships and Developing Sources” occurred recently, with another session scheduled for next month.
The university highlighted that King’s master classes are accessible to all students enrolled at Seton Hall.

Residing in Upper Montclair, New Jersey, King is no stranger to Seton Hall University’s community in South Orange. Before his retirement announcement, he had cultivated relationships with students by imparting valuable knowledge regarding NFL dynamics and sports journalism practices.
His involvement included participation in multiple academic events such as the 2023 seminar “Covering the NFL 101” and Seton Hall’s first pre-college Sports Media and Business Academy. Recently, he contributed insights at an event focused on excellence in sports writing alongside fellow NFL journalist Jarrett Bell.
