The Cincinnati Reds have not had much success recently as they have made the postseason once in the past 11 seasons.
In the 2024 season, the Reds finished fourth in the NL Central with a record of 77-85.
The Reds will have a new face leading their team in 2025 as the team signed veteran manager Terry Francona.
Outfielder Will Benson recently revealed what he expects Francona will bring to the team this season.
“I think that’s a great move for our team because one, his presence alone is going to put a fire in us. I think what we needed most is for someone to hold us accountable …,” Benson said, via MLB Network.
Will Benson will be reuniting with Terry Francona after spending a season with him as a rookie in Cleveland!
Benson expressed his positive views on Francona, and his experience being managed by him in his rookie season with the Cleveland Guardians in 2022.
Francona expects his players to play hard and leave everything out on the field, and Benson describes how the 65-year-old can light a fire under his roster.
The Reds have a young group in general, and Benson is one of those players at 26 years old.
Last season, Benson played in 128 games and batted .187 with 14 home runs, 43 RBIs and a .650 OPS.
The presence of Francona in the clubhouse may give young Reds players the leadership they require to take the next step in their development.
Although the Reds haven’t won the NL Central since 2012, the team should be healthier heading into 2025, which should help Francona get off to a good start.
