Recent research conducted by the Global EV Drivers Alliance (GEVA) indicates a striking trend among electric vehicle (EV) owners: a mere 1% would consider switching back to traditional gasoline or diesel vehicles for their next purchase.
This survey marks GEVA’s inaugural study of this nature, revealing compelling insights into EV ownership satisfaction. An impressive 92% of respondents expressed their intention to buy another electric vehicle in the future.
Notably, 4% indicated they might opt for a plug-in hybrid instead. This raises an interesting point—while plug-in hybrids can be classified as both gas and electric vehicles, those who favor them typically seek the benefits of electric driving with the security of fuel backup when needed. For many users transitioning from battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to plug-in hybrids, it often means they want primarily electric operation while having access to gas as a fallback option in challenging situations.
Satisfaction Rates Affirm EV Popularity
“These findings underscore that EV owners are overwhelmingly pleased with their decision; any claims about diminishing interest in EVs are significantly overstated,” stated Petter Haugneland, Assistant Secretary General of The Norwegian EV Association.
“Such high numbers indicate that drivers truly value their experiences with electric vehicles and confirm that they’re here to stay,” remarked Joel Levin, chair of GEVA and Director at Plug In America.

A significant factor contributing to this happiness is reduced operational costs. Many drivers appreciate lower charging expenses coupled with reduced maintenance needs. Additionally, home charging offers unparalleled convenience compared to making regular trips to fuel stations; consumers enjoy recharging at home or work without stepping outside into busy traffic areas.
Time savings accumulate throughout the year as well since avoiding frequent stops for gas translates directly into more time spent enjoying life rather than running errands like oil changes and emissions checks.
Environmental Concerns Remain Relevant
A majority still prioritize environmental issues when selecting an EV; according to GEVA’s findings, protecting air quality and addressing climate change rank high on owners’ motivations for driving hybrid or fully-electric cars.
The Call for Enhanced Charging Infrastructure
The survey did highlight one prevailing inconvenience: public fast-charging networks remain less than ideal in many regions.
While charging infrastructure has improved significantly globally and continues expanding rapidly, numerous participants reported frustration regarding limited access to quick chargers and longer-than-desired waiting times at available stations—a development that poses challenges as more consumers shift toward electrification.
