LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Nevada’s unemployment charge declined barely in August to five.3%, based on a jobs report launched on Thursday.
The chief economist for the Nevada Division of Employment, Coaching and Rehabilitation (DETR) described the present job market as “stationary.”
“The August report shows a labor market that is largely stationary. The total number of jobs is now effectively unchanged from a year ago, and the unemployment rate fell slightly as some unemployed individuals left the labor market,” DETR’s David Schmidt stated.

“Private sector employment fell by 6,000 jobs over the month, led by statistically significant declines in the Construction and Accommodation & Food Services industries. However, we have not experienced a surge in new claims for unemployment benefits from workers in those industries and data on hours worked and hourly wages continue to remain steady, pointing to an ongoing demand for workers,” Schmidt stated.
Within the Las Vegas metropolitan space, employment dropped by 4,300 jobs (-0.4%) since July, a lower of 5,000 jobs (-0.4%) since August 2024. Reno jobs decresed by 400 (-0.1%) and Carson Metropolis jobs elevated by 300 (0.9%).
Statewide, DETR stated the labor power decreased by 1,303, and the overall variety of nonfarm jobs was 1,570,100, representing no change over the previous 12 months.
