Barcelona have faced a challenging period ahead of the start of the European Championship.

First, Frenkie de Jong was unable to participate because he didn’t recover from his injury in time and now, Robert Lewandowski has also encountered a setback.

According to a report from SPORT, during a friendly match between Poland and Turkey, Lewandowski had to leave the game due to a muscle injury.

The Barcelona forward sustained the injury in the 32nd minute of the match and after feeling the discomfort, he sat down on the field and was substituted by Kacper Urbanski.

His injury seemed to occur when he made a quick move into open space and felt a sharp pain. Now, the Barcelona player managed to walk off the field by himself, but he looked visibly worried.

This is concerning since the European Championship is only six days away, with Poland set to play against the Netherlands in their first match.

Worrying sign? Maybe

Before Lewandowski left the game, he had already made a significant contribution by assisting his teammate to score the first goal, making the score 1-0.

According to Polish television commentators, Lewandowski chose to leave the game as a precaution to prevent the injury from getting worse.

At this point, it is unclear how severe Lewandowski’s injury is and the exact nature of his problem will only be known after Polish doctors examine him.

Poland are scheduled to play their first Euro 2024 match against the Netherlands in next few days days. If the injury is minor, like a simple swelling from a blow, he might recover in time.

However, if it is more serious, he could miss one or possibly all of Poland’s group stage matches.

Lewandowski has typically been a very healthy player throughout his career. However, it must be noted that earlier this season, he struggled with an ankle injury for over a month.
