It’s ranking event time on the World Snooker Tour!

The second ranking event of the season heads east to Xi’an, China, for the inaugural Xi’an Grand Prix, where the world’s best will compete for a winner’s prize share of £177,000 and those all important ranking points.

World champion Kyren Wilson comes into this event as the top seed, but 5th seeded Ronnie O’Sullivan is once again the player everyone will want to avoid, as he plots his path in a competitive top half of the draw.

2024 Xi’an Grand Prix Snooker – The Favourites

We highlight three players that hold an excellent chance of landing the 2024 Xi’an Grand Prix Snooker.

Ronnie O’Sullivan – 11/4

With £177,000 up for grabs for the winner this week, Ronnie O’Sullivan will no doubt be licking his lips as he narrows in on another overseas title.

The “Rocket” has made it clear in recent years that he is gunning for the bigger prize pots than the more traditional titles, so this trip to China could prove a great opportunity for him to line his wealthy pockets.

He’s got a massive following in China and usually performs well – five titles at the Shanghai Masters underlines this point.

He’s been drawn against Wang Yuchen in the opener and has a probable route of Bulcsu Revesz and then former world number one Neil Robertson in the next rounds, but this step up in class will probably get O’Sullivan playing his best stuff early in the tournament – ominous signs for his opposition.

Judd Trump – 11/4

Trump’s 2023/24 season was mesmerising, and with a Shanghai Masters title already under his belt, there are no signs that the “Ace in the Pack” is going to slow down any time soon.

The 34-year-old is the third seed in Xi’an, but will have to navigate his way past Jack Lisowski and Mark Selby to win his competitive quarter.

He opens up against Ma Hailong and will no doubt be a player in the latter stages of this tournament as he races through the field in the early rounds.

Mark Selby – 11/1

Selby finds himself as the third favourite in Xi’an this week despite not finding himself in the winner’s circle too often over the past couple of seasons.

Selby has won just the Championship League, WST Classic and English Open since the 2020/21 season and is still struggling to convince himself that he wants to play on the baize week-in, week-out.

He is quartered with Judd Trump this week, and in a deep field may struggle to win the number of frames needed in order to run deep in China.

Selby starts his campaign against Wang Xinbo and could run into 11th seed Gary Wilson in the last 16.

2024 Xi’an Grand Prix Snooker – Best Tips

Check out our 2024 Xi’an Grand Prix Snooker betting tips below.

Mark Allen to win 4th Quarter

Mark Allen has discovered a winning habit over the past couple of seasons, and it’s not a stretch to imagine the Northern Irishman coming out on top in the 4th quarter.

Barry Hawkins, Shaun Murphy and Zhou Yuelong are the biggest threats in his quarter, but 7/2 is a cracking price for the multi-time ranking title winner to bag himself five wins over the week.

Judd Trump to reach the final

With reigning world champion Kyren Wilson and Ronnie O’Sullivan in the top half of the draw, 6/4 for Judd Trump to come through his half of the draw looks like a good option in Xi’an.

Trump is playing pretty faultless snooker at times and has the confidence on the baize to fly through the field if given the opportunity.

He reached six finals in 14 ranking tournaments last year, so is showing the stamina to go deep in a mixture of tournaments across the globe.

Kyren Wilson to win 1st Quarter

Wilson may well have been a shock World Championship winner in the spring, but the 32-year-old has been threatening a run at the top for a few seasons now.

He’s now got a target on his back, but can consider himself pretty fortunate to have landed in the top quarter of the draw in Xi’an.

His two biggest rivals will be two of the legends of the sport – John Higgins and Mark Williams, but at their advancing ages it’s impossible to judge how much importance they will place on a tournament like this.

Higgins and Williams can of course beat anyone on their day, but Wilson has that momentum and confidence on the big stage, and is a good pick at 7/2 to come through the top quarter.

He’ll also have to keep his eyes peeled for the home favourite Ding Junhui, who is a reasonable 9/2 to come through the top segment.
