It’s been a strong international break for so many of our squad and it ended with a bit of a shock in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Bruno Guimaraes and Miguel Almiron started for their countries as Brazil traveled to Paraguay for a World Cup qualifying clash in South America, which ended in a shock 1-0 win for Miggy.
A huge night for him and one that boosted Paraguay’s hopes of making the 2026 World Cup after a vital point against Uruguay last week, but it was a night to forget for Bruno.
Our new team captain was criticised for not closing down the shot that led to the winning goal and was hooked at half time for a below-par display.
Elsewhere over the international break we’ve seen three goals for Sweden’s Alexander Isak, two assists and a player of the match award for Lewis Hall, Anthony Gordon reclaiming his place in the England XI with two eye-catching displays, Sandro Tonali with a stunning assist and two big wins for Italy.
We’ve also seen back to back wins and clean sheets for Martin Dubravka and Odysseas Vlachodimos along with goals at U21 and U19 level for Denmark’s Will Osula and England’s Trevan Sanusi, along with no injuries to report.
Almiron 1-0 Guimaraes
