Former Greene Township fiscal officers face financial repercussions from the Ohio Auditor of State
On Tuesday, the Ohio Auditor of State revealed a finding for recovery of $46,337 against ex-fiscal officers Sandra Detchon and Yevonne Postlethwait of Greene Township. The auditor found that they neglected to submit withholdings and necessary tax reports promptly, leading to penalties, fees, and interest for the township dating back to 2012.
Failure to remit withholdings on time is considered a misuse of public funds, according to auditors. Detchon is accountable for $15,211, while Postlehwait is on the hook for $31,126. This finding follows an audit of Greene Township’s finances from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2021.
The Ohio Auditor of State’s website outlines the process for collecting the funds, with the public office’s legal counsel having 120 days to initiate collection. If this does not occur within the specified timeframe, the Attorney General is then authorized to take action.
Furthermore, individuals with outstanding findings for recovery are ineligible to receive state funding for a variety of purposes, including goods, services, or construction projects.
