Bath made it two wins out of two at the start of the English Premiership rugby union season with a hard-fought 20-15 success away to Leicester on Sunday.

The west country side had a measure of revenge for last season’s Premiership final loss to Northampton with a 38-16 win over the Saints last week.

And while Bath were less convincing at Welford Road, they did enough although it was not until seven minutes from time that they finally saw off Leicester.

Bath scored three tries from Will Muir, Tom de Glanville and Guy Pepper, with Scotland fly-half Finn Russell adding one conversion and England’s Ben Spencer kicking a penalty.

The England duo of Jack van Poortvliet and Dan Cole crossed for Leicester, with Jamie Shillcock converting one of those tries and also landing a penalty.

The match was in the balance until late on, but Pepper finished off a series of forward drives to score a try on the back of a 50/22 kick out of defence.

Russell converted but them missed a penalty before Spencer was on target with one of his own to give Bath breathing space.

There was still time, however, for Leicester to secure a losing bonus-point when 37-year-old veteran prop Cole forced his way over from close range.
