Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said last night that this week will be difficult as he expects Belgrade to face the question of imposing them again of sanctions against Russia, TANYUG informs.

On Wednesday, a meeting of the leaders of the countries of Southeast Europe, plus Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, will be held in Dubrovnik, where support for Ukraine and its territorial integrity will be discussed.

According to Vucic, Zelenski will insist that Serbia introduce sanctions against Russia.

“I saw the text of the declaration, it will be asked to introduce sanctions against Russia. We’re going to have a tough week on this one (…). For us and for them,” Vucic said in a program on Serbian TV Pink.

Serbia has refused to join Western sanctions against Russia imposed over the invasion of Ukraine, although Belgrade has condemned Moscow’s aggression. The Serbian president is of the opinion that the imposition of sanctions does not meet the country’s national interests. The EU insists that Belgrade synchronize its foreign policy with the European one, since Serbia is a candidate country for EU membership.

Vucic recalled that today he is at a conference in Hamburg, where he expects to meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and then he will go to Montenegro to participate in a leadership meeting within the Burdo-Brioni process.

I don’t have a problem with the vocabulary of the West, but when they oblige us to introduce sanctions, I don’t want to lead such a policy, Vucic also said.

In the extensive interview with Pink TV, the Serbian president also drew attention to a number of economic topics.

He predicts that the country’s gross domestic product will reach 103 billion euros by the end of 2027, and the country’s public debt is not a problem, as it represents 46.4 percent of GDP, TANYUG agency informs.

Vucic assessed that the increase in Serbia’s credit rating at the end of last week is a very good signal to the world and investors.

The Serbian president announced that the high-speed railway line from Novi Sad to Subotica near the border with Hungary will be launched by November 24, and that this is an important project for connecting Serbia and Hungary, as well as connecting the country with Europe.
