Celebrating Diversity and Achievement at the 2024 National Paralympic Week
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The curtains fell on the 2024 National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) in Solo, Central Java, with a vibrant closing ceremony that took place on Sunday. Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, underscored the importance of inclusiveness within national sports policies during his address. This year’s theme, “Bedo Nanging Digdoyo” (Diverse yet Strong), captures the spirit of this‍ significant event.
Commitment to Equality in Sports
Ariotedjo emphasized that it is essential for individuals with disabilities to have equal opportunities in sports and personal development. “Athletes with disabilities epitomize champion athletes; they demonstrate that everyone is entitled to partake in sports,” he stated at Manahan Stadium during the ceremonies’ conclusion.
A Celebration of Artistic Expression
The closing event was alive with artistic flair featuring performances from 180 dancers, including several talented individuals with disabilities. The minister praised these athletes not only as competitors but also as inspiring figures who embody hard work and determination.
The Legacy of Peparnas: Overcoming Limitations Together
D.B. Susanto, chairperson of the Peparnas Committee for this year, reflected on how since its inaugural event in 1957, Peparnas has shown that obstacles are no barrier to success. He stated that diligence and persistence can triump over challenges allowing all participants—regardless of ability—to showcase their skills at this prestigious sporting platform.
Solo’s Capacity for Hosting Major EventsSolo previously hosted significant events such as:The 2022 ASEAN Para Games. The U-17 World Cup held in 2023.
This rich history facilitated a seamless agreement to host Peparnas this year successfully without receiving complaints from either competitors or attendees—though an evaluative process is still planned following the event’s conclusion.
