Indian Athletes Excel at the Asian Championships in Hong Kong
Hong Kong, October 20 (PTI) – Indian athletes showcased their exceptional talent during the season’s inaugural continental cross-country event, securing an impressive total of 11 medals at the Asian Championships held on Sunday.
Dominance Across Categories
The Indian contingent achieved remarkable success by clinching gold medals in all four category team events: men’s, women’s, U-20 men’s, and U-20 women’s competitions. In the men’s individual 10km race, India not only dominated but completed a clean sweep of the podium. Meanwhile, Indian women athletes earned both the gold and silver medals in their respective individual 10km race but narrowly missed out on bronze.
Standout Performances
Gulveer Singh emerged as a standout performer among men. An Asian Games medalist and national record holder for both 5,000m and 10,000m track races, he secured first place with a remarkable time of 32 minutes and 43 seconds.
Tight on his heels was Abhishek Pal who crossed the finish line just seconds later at 32 minutes and 49 seconds to claim second place. Arun Rathod followed closely behind with a time of 32 minutes and 51 seconds to take third position. Additionally, Kartik Kumar from India finished fourth in this highly competitive event.
Women’s Events Highlights
The women’s segment also saw fierce competition. Seema triumphed with a personal best of 37 minutes and 20 seconds to take home gold by narrowly edging out her compatriot Sanjivani Jadhav who matched her time but had to settle for silver due to finishing behind Seema in an intense sprint finish. Completing this trio was He Wuga from China who clocked in at an impressive time of 38 minutes flat for bronze.
