Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos Islands, October 20, 2024 – Starbucks Grand Turk, operated by licensed retail operator Caribbean Coffee Traders Limited (CCTL), is proud to celebrate five years of delivering an exceptional coffee experience to customers by reaffirming its commitment to a greener future.

Today, the company announced the certification of its store in Turks & Caicos, Starbucks Grand Turk, as a Greener Store, as the company accelerates the international expansion of its open-source Greener Store Framework, intended to reduce global carbon emissions, water usage and waste sent to landfills by 50% by 2030. The store will help reduce Starbucks environmental impact by providing customers with a range of options suited to their preferences while ensuring sustainable practices and materials.

The Turks & Caicos Greener Store responsibly adheres to the Starbucks Greener Store Framework through a more efficient use of resources, including water waste management, use of responsible materials and sustainable waste management techniques. The store is designed to reduce up to 40% water waste, create over 10% store level energy efficiency using 100% LED lighting, and emit less toxins with low embodied carbon materials. In addition, the store will donate its coffee grounds to customers through the Grounds for Your Garden Program.

“We are delighted to celebrate five years providing locals and tourists an extraordinary Starbucks Experience while giving more than we take from the planet we share,” said Roxanne Dixon-Rose, Regional Director of Caribbean Coffee Baristas Turks Limited. We take pride in offering premium quality Arabica coffee from around the world and creating a warm atmosphere for customers to come and enjoy moments of connection over a cup of coffee. This milestone reinforces our commitment to our customers and the community we serve.”

CCTL plans to continue its growth with the opening of an additional store by the end of 2025, through its subsidiary Caribbean Coffee Baristas Turks Limited, led by Ian Dear, Chief Executive Officer and franchise operator of Margaritaville Caribbean Group and Adam Stewart, Executive Chairman of Sandals Resort International. Beyond Turks & Caicos Islands, CCTL and Margaritaville Caribbean Group have expanded to four additional markets in Latin America and the Caribbean, operating Starbucks stores in Jamaica, Barbados, Panama and Cayman Islands with a total of 38 stores across the region.

Since opening its first store in 2019 on the Grand Turk Cruise Port, Starbucks has been a hub for locals and tourists to unwind and connect with friends and family while enjoying a cup of premium Arabica coffee from different regions across the globe. The stunning pink store has gained popularity for its unique design and has created a lasting impression on cruise ship passengers from around the world.

Our green apron partners (employees) are celebrating this milestone by dedicating a day of service to the Ona Glinton Primary School in Grand Turk where they will execute a beautification project. This reinforces Starbucks commitment to investing in the communities it serves around the world. Starbucks Grand Turk also partnered with the Health Promotion & Advocacy Unit of Grand Turk, an arm of the Ministry of Health, Agriculture and Human Services, for a community clean-up project within its five years of operations in Turks & Caicos.
