A manhunt is currently being conducted following the discovery of a banking executive who was brutally murdered in her apartment in London.

Investigators looking into the incident in Woolwich have identified the deceased as 43-year-old Marianne Kilonzi, an employee of Citibank.

Officers responded to a residential property on Argyll Road in south-east London around 5:25 PM last Friday after receiving concerns regarding the well-being of the resident.

The Metropolitan Police reported that Kilonzi’s lifeless body was located within the premises.

The victim has been officially confirmed, and as of now, no arrests have been made, according to the police statement.

A postmortem examination revealed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma and injuries to the head.

Kilonzi held the position of vice-president in trade and working capital sales and treasury and trade solutions at Citibank in London, having been promoted from the firm’s Kenya office; she had been with the company for 18 years, based on her LinkedIn profile.

Detective Chief Inspector Suzanne Soren from Specialist Crime South, who is overseeing the investigation, remarked: “This is an incredibly tragic crime, and our thoughts are with Marianne’s family and colleagues during this challenging time.

“We are in communication with her family members, who are receiving support from our specialists.

“I understand this is an unsettling time for the community, and I want to reassure the public that, while we are still in the preliminary stages of the investigation, we believe the suspect had a prior acquaintance with Marianne and that there is no broader threat to public safety.”

When inquired about the possibility of the suspect having fled the country, a representative of the Met stated: “This is one of the lines of inquiry being pursued as part of the investigation.”

The Met previously indicated that the suspect was known to Kilonzi and that they were conducting urgent efforts to locate a specific individual.

A spokesperson from Citibank expressed, “We are profoundly saddened by the tragic passing of our colleague. Our thoughts are with Marianne’s family and friends as they navigate this difficult time.”

Anyone with information that might help the investigation is urged to call 101 and reference CAD 5231/17Jan, or to reach out to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
