LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A two-year highway building challenge is coming to a stretch of Charleston Boulevard between Commerce Road and Maryland Parkway. The Metropolis of Las Vegas challenge will carry upgraded storm drainage, highway enhancements, visitors sign adjustments, and extra.

Taffy Watkins, a bartender who works and lives across the Huntridge neighborhood, mentioned the outdated infrastructure wants the change.

“Nineteen forty-one was when my house was built, so these are things that just have to happen,” she mentioned.

Whereas the work is completed, cones and torn-up roads are positive to be seen.

“I guess my mom always said it hurts to be beautiful,” Watkins mentioned. “So, we’re going to have to rough it up to be beautiful. I think a lot of people are going to have some complaints about it, of course, but you know, let’s have a beer over it.”

A side which will result in complaints and an intersection with extra roadwork at Maryland Parkway.

“Two two-year segments, we just want to get it over with, we’re trauma bonding together,” Watkins mentioned.

One of many people bonding with Watkins at her bar, Huntridge Tavern, is Zach Klug. He is a land surveyor who’s no stranger to the valley’s roadwork.

“I see both sides of it, you know, I see the frustration and I see the good that comes from it. So my advice would be to leave five minutes earlier. I don’t really know. It’s unfortunate, but it’s just kind of one of those necessary…
