LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Clark County College District leaders are applauding a brand new regulation that enables cameras on faculty bus cease arms.

Nonetheless, there are considerations over enforcement, together with whether or not the Clark County College District Police Division even has the manpower to deal with writing tickets to violators.

“It is really using technology to help with safety and we’re very excited for that,” Amber Rideout, CCSD assistant superintendent of transportation mentioned. “When you see a school bus and the stop-arms are out – please stop.”

Beginning July 1, state faculty districts have been allowed to put in cameras on cease arms after Nevada lawmakers handed Meeting Invoice 527 in the course of the current legislative session. When initially introduced, AB 527 approved the set up and use of college bus infraction detection programs on faculty buses and was initially launched on March 24. The invoice was permitted by the governor in June.

Legislators used information from BusPatrol, a security tech firm, to justify the regulation.

“Anytime that we’re alerted, whether it’s the public or one of our constituents, we definitely do the appropriate research,” Rideout mentioned. “We are utilizing the data from that legislative session to better evaluate the bus stops and see if there’s anything that needs to be modified.”
