Las Vegas Enhances School Zone Safety with New Speed Regulations and Community Initiatives
Lower Speed Limits Introduced to Protect Students Near Schools
As the new school year approaches, Las Vegas city officials have taken decisive action to improve safety for students commuting to and from school. Effective immediately, speed limits in all designated school zones—covering both public and private institutions—have been reduced from 25 mph to 15 mph during critical school hours. This adjustment is supported by flashing warning signs to alert motorists, aiming to minimize traffic dangers for children walking, biking,or crossing streets near schools.
Along with the speed limit changes, the city has implemented several safety upgrades, including:
- Increased presence of crossing guards during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal periods.
- Improved visibility of pedestrian crosswalks through the use of reflective paints and enhanced lighting systems.
- Public education campaigns designed to raise awareness among drivers about safe behaviors in school zones.
