LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Claims of efforts to defund the Henderson Police Division are rising louder after contract negotiations broke down between union leaders and metropolis workers.

On Tuesday, a Nevada Affiliation of Public Security Officers (NAPSO) spokesperson launched an announcement to the media concerning a breakdown in present negotiations with the Metropolis of Henderson, expressing disappointment.

“While city leaders consistently accept praise for the safe environment that the police insure, city leaders steadfastly refuse to negotiate a fair contract with the police,” a NAPSO spokesperson wrote. “The City of Henderson’s proposals at mediation this week were tantamount to defunding the police.”

The collapse in conversations follows a Could appointment of Henderson Police Chief Reggie Rader. The NAPSO spokesperson didn’t place blame for the breakdown on the brand new management for the division.

“While the unions support the new police chief, we believe that the city’s actions will undermine his ambitious plans for the department,” a union spokesperson wrote. “Both unions plan to aggressively pursue all legal avenues to force the city to negotiate an appropriate contract while they continue to provide exceptional service to the citizens of the city.”

The NAPSO represents the Henderson Police Officers Affiliation and the Henderson Police Supervisors Affiliation.
