LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — This fall season is proving to be a much cooler one than last year, and Tuesday night’s snowfall on Mount Charleston proved it. By Wednesday morning, Lee Canyon was reporting 6 inches of fresh snow, one of the earliest and most plentiful snowfalls in years.

Sunny skies, cooler temperatures hang on in Las Vegas valley

“It’s an early-season winter storm. It’s certainly our first cold snap of the year,” Meteorologist Stan Czyzyk with the National Weather Service in Las Vegas said.

Lee Canyon’s webcam captured this snowy image at the ski resort around 9 a.m. The 6-inch snowfall is an unusual occurrence for this time of year, but not a record.

Mount Charleston is part of the Spring Mountains, where anywhere from 1 inch to 6 inches of snow fell, depending on the elevation, Czyzyk said.
