LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Mosquito complaints are buzzing louder throughout Clark County.
They aren’t only a nuisance; they’ll carry and unfold viruses. County leaders are contemplating a mosquito abatement district to assist management the rising menace earlier than it will get worse.
“I get lots of complaints about mosquitoes. I complain about mosquitoes myself,” Clark County Chairman Tick Segerblom mentioned.
Al Rojas says he left California to get away from pesky mosquitoes solely to search out the identical downside right here in Nevada.
“That’s why I left Orange County. The mosquito bites were huge,” Rojas mentioned. “I’ve been getting a little bit of mosquito bites; they’ve been picking up.”

“Unfortunately, it’s a very nasty condition that can become neuroinvasive, and it affects the elderly and the immunocompromised, the most vulnerable members of our population here,” Dr. Luisa Messenger, Assistant Professor for UNLV’s College of Public Well being, mentioned.
The opposite, a more moderen species referred to as Aedes aegypti, has exploded throughout the valley.
“Initially, it was confined to just 6 zip codes, but by 2021, it had become explosive across the valley. It’s reached 82 of our zip codes, and this mosquito will continue to spread,” Dr. Messenger mentioned.
