Deadly Surge Shatters Records
Las Vegas roadways claimed 163 lives in 2025, matching the toll from 2006 and marking the deadliest year in two decades within the department’s jurisdiction.[1] This figure capped a steady climb in fatal crashes since 2020, with speeding consistently ranking among the top contributing factors.[1] Drivers pushing limits on busy streets amplified the risks, leading to preventable tragedies.
Previous years set the stage for concern. Clark County recorded 293 traffic deaths in 2024, surpassing 258 from 2023.[2] Within Metro’s area, numbers hovered around 160 that year, underscoring a persistent crisis fueled by aggressive acceleration and disregard for limits.[3]
