Labor unions across Taiwan have expressed strong opposition to the proposed acquisition of foodpanda by Grab, citing significant concerns about the potential creation of a market monopoly and the adverse impact on gig workers’ rights. Union representatives argue that consolidating these two dominant delivery platforms could drastically reduce competition, which may lead to unfair pricing and deteriorating working conditions for thousands of delivery personnel. They warn that without sufficient regulatory oversight, the deal risks leaving workers vulnerable to exploitative practices and diminished bargaining power.
