Television loves to sell us on-screen chemistry, but behind the cameras things don’t always match the script. Some of the most beloved shows in history were held together by actors who could barely stand to be in the same room, and occasionally that tension spilled into shouting matches, lawsuits, and firings that fans only learned about years later. Here are nine of the most talked-about co-star feuds from famous TV sets, based on what cast members, producers, and court records have actually confirmed over the years.
1. Beverly Hills, 90210: Shannen Doherty vs. Jennie Garth
Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth played Brenda Walsh and Kelly Taylor, two characters whose on-screen rivalry over Dylan McKay bled into real life in ways nobody planned for. Garth explained that they were written as characters to be against each other and that this translated into the media and into the audience’s perception of their relationship, which she said was confusing for both of them. Things came to a head over what should have been a harmless set prank, when Garth started a bit called “Pants Down Day” where she would pull the pants on crew members in a funny way, though some of them were getting pretty annoyed with it.
